The mission of the Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA) is to enhance the transparency of the Massachusetts health care system and to provide objective, reliable information and meaningful analysis for those seeking to improve health care quality, affordability, access and outcomes. CHIA is the agency of record for Massachusetts health care information and acts as the principal repository for health care data collected by the Commonwealth and is responsible for maintaining such data in a secure payer and provider claims database, known as the Massachusetts All Payer Claims Database (MA APCD). By law enacted in 2012, CHIA was established as an independent agency of the Commonwealth. Prior to the passage of this law, many of the functions and responsibilities of CHIA were performed by the Division of Health Care Finance and Policy.

The Information Technology Group at CHIA is seeking a Database Administrator to help fulfill its mission. S/he will work with a very talented team of IT professional within the Database Administration Unit to support the data collection, analysis and reporting demands of CHIA.  We are looking for an enthusiastic individual that is knowledgeable about health care in the Commonwealth, collaborates well with teams, and delivers exceptional results. 

This position will remain open until filled with preference going to those who apply within the first 14 days. The full time salary range for this position is $80,000-$95,000 annually.

Detailed Duties:

Under the supervision of the Director of Database Administration, the Database Administrator will:

  • Act as database administrator in SQLServer 2012
  • Act as an administrator and operator using ETL tools, “DataStage and SSIS”
  • Be responsible for support of CHIA’s production Database systems
  • Be responsible for Development DBA tasks; such as, Data Model Documentation, Source Control DB
  • Provide database technical support for Test/Development systems
  • Ensure the relationship between data is correct and documented
  • Assist in the definition of storage requirements and retention times
  • Assist in the documentation and implementation of database back-ups and restorations
  • Work with application developers to administer SQL stored procedures


  • A Bachelor's Degree in related areas including Computer Information Science, Engineering or Business is highly desirable, and may substitute for two years of the required experience if acquired within the last 2 years
  • Basic knowledge of recognized practices, theories, and methods of system analysis, relational databases and data warehousing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four (4) years of experience as an IT professional (preferably with relational databases)
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL, Microsoft SSIS, Microsoft Access and Netezza 
  • Experience with ETL tools, and Visio desirable    
  • Knowledge of health care data
